Thank You Watchtower Society
by snugglebunny inthank you watchtower society.. thank you for converting my parents into jehovah's witnesses.
i really was getting bored with christmas and birthdays and the 5 meetings every week were so much more fun than boring old children's parties.. thank you for getting me out knocking on doors solo at age 10. much better than kicking a football around.
it was a pleasure to see the astonished looks on my school mates faces when i knocked on their doors, especially on christmas day.

Yes Jook, it's a hateful religion, nothing "healthful" about it, all lovey dovey at the KH but God's gonna kill everyone who doesn't listen to the JW message. This is paranoia writ large.
Everyone dies-- but Jehovah's Witnesses die either completely deluded or secretly woken up to the fact that its a steaming load of BS. No Jehovah's Witness has ever died with any benefit from their false paradise promises.
It's a rip-off and delusion for the rank and file but just look how well fed the GB are!

I wish I had not gone to the meeting last night
by stillin inthe first thing i saw when i went in was the two video screens having the watchtower singers chorus doing a number.
the sound wasn't up enough to make out the song, but the video was grotesque.
the singers were swaying to the music, all independent of each other, no discipline, actually sloppy-looking.

Why is it that Jehovah's Witnesses are resolutely Phillistine and cramped in their sensibilities? I suppose if they sought to cultivate a more enlightened aesthetic they would feel they were being worldly.
I would have to take a ferry sick bag with me if I went to the meetings, enormous derrieres swaying to 'Kingdom' melodies and then ritual bunker indoctrination to scare the children into submission.
Today it's all about a shameless and dying doomsday cult in action. Bunker mentality only appears in a regime when the cult is in terminal decline.

World History: Time Line / Synchronological Charts
by darkspilver infor those that haven't seen them yet - and they don't seem to have been posted here yet - some might be interested in the following two charts:.
the histomap: four thousand years of world history - relative power of contemporary states, nations and empires.
a vertical chart showing relative world powers and events over 4,000 years, chart made in 1931. link to the full 2,097 x 9,554 3.68mb chart: http://imgur.com/r/infographics/xrrpg6p.

Pretty and quaint but completely misleading.
However if you believe in the Bible rather than scientific evidence, or you still live in Tennessee as it was in the 1920s these maps will supply plenty of ammunition for your confirmation bias.
Interesting too how whilst they are so out of date, they still conform extremely well to the vision of ostrich heads like JWs.

I agree with you Steve, clearly God quite blatantly does not rescue people from violence as this death shows, even those who claim to be doing work for him. The JW myth in fact is that god is not going to spare billions of people in a mass violent death orgy at Armageddon.
In reality God never does do anything at all, he never has and he never will.
However, we can commiserate with those like the family of this woman who have lost a loved one.

Is the End right around the corner or what???
by Lynnie ininteresting observations i've noticed when visiting my uber elder cousin and his wife.
he just inherited a lovely home on the water on puget sound from his non jw dad who passed away earlier this year.
so they have spent many $$$ and months remodeling this house to their standards which are quite expensive tastes.

Yes, speaking to PIMOs I get the impression that the social club spirit is eclipsing the holy spirit.
The average JW is goes through the rituals for the sake of appearances 'cos that is what you have to do to be a member. In the main they are fed up with waiting for the ever fading paradise promise and calmly accept their own death like unbelievers.
The carrot has withered and gone mouldy so all the GB can do is give them the stick by way of "Do more!"
The new way of coping as a JW is to take it all with a pinch of salt! The gb will be furious when they realize what is actually going on in the minds of their sheep. They may have to admit defeat earlier than we think.
Whatever, it is another nail in the Watchtower coffin.

Concept faithful discreet slave
by inbetween09 inaccording to the "new light" the faithful slave class appeared after jesus came 1914 (rather 1918 he inspected the temple) and was bestowed with assigement to provide spiritual food.. there are a number of problems with this new concept:.
how did russel and co found out about certain unique teachings diffferent from mainstream christendom?.
option 1) apparently by himself, as there was no fds at his time.

Fisherman I am just so weary of quoting the scriptures as if they had any real meaning, they are useless for anything except as literary archetypes. There is no "true interpretation" of the Bible possible, it is a pointless exercise, a sisyphean task.
In this case (fds) the date of arrival of the Kingdom is a necessary piece of knowledge to see its application yet "no one knows the day or hour" ad infinitum... although Jesus said (or it is written that he said it, as it is unlikely that he existed) that the kingdom would come in the lifetime of those who lived with him. Mark 9;1
The scriptures as an inerrant collection of divine instructions must be the biggest scam of all time and one perpetuated by the Catholic Church in the fourth century at the behest of the Roman Empire.

Fisherman," the concept is valid".
But does that mean that the Bible is actually truthful and we should believe it all and act on everything it teaches?
The fds parable would have been obvious to both the rich and to slaves that the slave's job is to work when the master is not present--and how pleased ("chuffed" is a good UK word) the slave would be to be found still working at the master's return. One of many everyday illustrations to sell the new bonkers idea of Christianity giving (mainly) the poor and uneducated the hope of immortality by worshipping Jesus.
Is it not obvious that the NT is the work of religious propagandists trying to convince and illustrate credibility for their partisan brand of the Christ story? You have to understand that the Christ story was known and told for centuries before Jesus appeared as the title figure. The Greeks called them Sophists, others; God-men, magicians or even conjurors.
